November 4, 200421 yr Hi guys! I'm brand new today. I just found your site and I'm delighted because I have a problem with my '84 4WD turbo AT wagon. The distributor pick up coil needs to be replaced and the only one I can find is through a dealer. Their price is terrifying. Any thoughts on where I might find this part after-market? Does anyone have any ideas on updating or converting this distributor to another model? Any one have a used distributor? I'm sure others have encoutered this before...help!
November 4, 200421 yr whats the distributor pickup coil, is it inside of the distributor? if so you can put any distributor from any ea81 in there. if its just the coil in general, any aftermarket cylinder type coil with a + and - post will do. or any coil from another subaru. if you need either one, i have both.
November 5, 200421 yr I doubt that you can swap in any of them except maybe an 85-86 turbo one. Try contacting Roo Builders thru the link below. He sells fully rebuilt disty's for these. RooBuilders

Well not really.Other EA-81 distys have no provision for connecting the knock control computer. Not to mention that the centrifugal and vacuum advance curves are considerably different. Roo builders rebuilds don`t come with a pick-up coil. Don`t think there are any aftermarket ones. Pretty sure I have 2 spares.I`ll be keeping 1,but might be persueded to part with the other.Email me.
