Cooling sys recall on 00 Foresters -is the same problem to show up on 98 Legacy?

Recall #WWP991 Engine cooling system conditioner. Just what is this stuff??? Is it "stop leak" type product? Is my 1998 Legacy sedan prone to this same ailment? Should I get this product for it?

I'm not positive what the stuff is, but it's a preventive measure to help keep your Phase II EJ25 from blowing a headgasket like the Phase I EJ25 loves to do so much.

It might help your Phase I EJ25 Legacy, but you'd probably have to buy the solution, I don't think a dealer will put it in that car under any recall/warranty.

Subaru had a small problem with a sealer failing on phase 2s. this caused a usually small external leak. The sealer is just a stop leak product. I have had it in my 99 Forester with phase 2 for more than a year and I don't have any leaks, but who knows if I would have had one anyway?

I had my 01 Forester done on this same recall.

It's a silicone sealer for the cooling system to prevent those small leaks.

There are some old threads on the subject...

Good Luck
