November 25, 200421 yr Hi and Happy Thanksgiving! I have a 87 Brat with a 4sp dr and I found a xt6 4wd auto willing to donate the 5 lug parts but I was wondering about in the repair manuel it says it will sit higher in the front. Does anyone know how much? Also I have found a low miles Legasy turbo and thinking of that for a engine swap what do you think? One last question what years would have the power steering rack I would need? Thanks Charlie
November 25, 200421 yr i can't answer all your questions but for the power stearing i believe 80-84 wagons, 80 and up hatches, and 80 and up brats. if i am wrong someone please correct me
November 25, 200421 yr the suspension won't bolt right into the car. You'll need to do lots of fabbing in order to get the 5-lug conversion done. As for the motor, there have been a few people who have swapped the Lagacy EJ22 motor into them but I'm not sure on the turbo motor.
November 26, 200421 yr Good luck with the suspension, you'll have some major mods a head of you, but if you do it, godspeed, that's awesome. With the EJ swap, also cool, let me know how it goes. That turbo would be awesome!!!!! and where'd you get a lo-mile legacy turbo- i want it! '81 brat defianately doesn't have power steering, makes for good muscles. perhaps a gen-2 thing? I have NO idea.

November 26, 200421 yr There has been some R&D done on the gen2's and the 5 lug conversion. It will work but requires a little more creativity than the gen3's. I can give exact details as I don't know them. I do know it will work. The rear is basic the front will be the challenge. The engine has been done numerous times by the Australians and by a few Yanks. You have a couple of options with the engine swap. Run the AWD trans that mates to the EJ22. Or, contacting Mudrat for the adapter plate and clutch set up for the 5sp D/R. Whatever you decide to do it won't be an overnight mod. It will take time and money to accomplish. As well as alot of patience.
