I have a 1998 legacy outback with a 4 speed automatic transmission that the front differential went out. I am not able to find a new ring and pinion gear which are the parts needed. I am looking for a ring and pinion or whole transmission if one can be found. My next question is i have found two 2000 outback models with good transmissions. Can the two of these transmissions be interchanged with each other? Thank you for any help that can be provided to me. Mark Cornett

So yes the stalk is the same from the 92 changed it out and tried it before I put it back together and they worked fine, I put it back together and nothing. So I started looking around and I can get them to work when I'm messing with the flasher. But if the flasher is the problem why do the hazzards work and what's the chance the flasher I just bought from autozone is also bad

Hey Peeps, Im a noobie here!!

as far as max boost your computer has a safety in it that will kill your fuel injectors if it senses more than 10 psi for more than 3 secounds. or something along those lines -
basically all i have to say has been said prevously. but insurance companies are the scum of the earth. they are the worst crooks you will ever meet i would rather go into any jail and and find the worst thief i could and make a deal with him than with an insurance company. on a side note when i wrecked my wagon the other insurance company tried to do a 50/50 deal on the fault and say if i didn't take that right then i would get nothing i told them to go f$^k them selves and i was calling my attorney. then i hung up 10 minutes later they called me back and took full blame for the accident. and even gave me a fair value on the car. my piont is just dropping the A word at insurance companies does alot. but you can't do that if your not willing to follow though. be carefull the insurance companies will try to F$%k you over any chance they get. best of luck

as far as the 4wd drive goes there great you can engage and disengage at any speed. and you drive as fast as you want with it engaged. make sure you don't try to engage the 4wd when your front tires are slipping let the front tires match the speed of the rear tires before engaging. the timing belts are not hard but make sure you read all directions thoughly and follow them. pay close attention to how you are soppose to line up the first belt and then spin the crank 360 degress before putting the secound belt on<my eyes skipped that part my first time moter won't start very well>. all in all not to difficult

an 88 gl should have the EA82 SPFI. which translates to 1.8 OHC<Over Head Cam> Single Piont Fuel Injection.

Shifting to 4WD on the Fly
stngllhm replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the reason to have your wheels straight when shifting from 2wd to 4wd is so that the wheel speed are all close to the same. so when you engage the rear end there won't be any grinding. when shifting from 4 hi to 4 lo since you already have the rear end engaged it is not important to have them straight. -
not all loyale wagons AWD only a few automatic ones are. most loyales are like the gl and have partime 4WD. on another note i swapped an rx AWD tranny into my wagon and every thing matched up but it was already 4WD

cooling woes... overheated the TW
stngllhm replied to Hondasucks's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
no if you have stock ac you will have one electric and one run off the water pump. also on a side note just turn on the heater won't always work cause on a subaru the ac pump is engage with the heater on. so when ever i'm having trouble with over heating i will unhook the electic lines goning to the pump so i can run the heater without engaging the ac pump. as far as electic to engine driven fans i have had better luck with the engine driven ones and if you need one i'm pretty sure i got one lying around that is yours if you want it
