I just bought my first Subaru today but it doesn't have a manual. It is a '96 Impreza with 40,000 miles. Do dealerships have manuals, or let you photocopy them? Also, does anyone have any input on maintenace that might be needed soon?

The answer to your question is, yes Subaru has a factory manual for you car, the problem is that from 93 to 99 they created a series of binders, with volumn 1 & 2 being the 93 model year, each volumn after that was updates and changes between model years, so to get a 96 FSM (Factory Service Manaul), you would need volumns 1, 2, 3, and 4 (there wasn't a volumn for 94) to have a 96 model year set. I have a complete set, volumn 1 thru 13, but do not wish to break up the set, the complete set, all 13 volumns is $325 plus shipping. Because of the size and weight of these books, I would expect the shipping to be somewhere around $50 (just a guess).

you want factory service manuals or just standard manual? You can buy the standard ones for very cheap ebay and other.

Timing belt at 62k or four years. That's the REALLY important one.

 

Engine oil and filter at 7k.

 

Manual transmission and Differentials at 30K.

OK, I'll convert that into USA specs ( ), timing belt every 60,000 miles or 4 years. I change oil and filter every 3,000 mile, but you can change the filter every other oil change. The tranny and diff fluid changes are probably about right, but most people that I know of, have never changed either. The coolant is also about right, if you change it every other year you should be alright.

Just a hint, in the USA, we don't use kilometers.
