  2. Damn CV axle crapped out on me. So im looking at replacements. OEM are like $250 and OE replacement ones are like $75....is there a $175 diffrence for a reason or just because its a OEM Part Thanks Cory
  3. went with the import experts kit....will report back with any problems...thank you for the great discussion...
  4. not to hijack a thread, but why get anything but liablity on a $650 dollar car....put your insurance payments in a bank for 6 months and youve more than paid for the car....i have a $5000 car and dont get full coverage...
  5. i forget about the search feature... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91228&highlight=shop+portland is he good with new gen stuff too? Cory
  6. Looking for a knowledgeable affordable subaru only shop for my 2002 legacy in Portland area..i live 45miles North of Downtown Portland, OR so whatever is closest and best... thanks Cory
  7. buy a $2500 subaru and make it yours...save your money then buy whatever you want. At a screaming rate of 5% paying on an 18,000 car for 5 years your looking at paying $1000 or more a year for the priveledge to have your car early plus $400 a month over insurance which is $5000 a year if you saved that money you would have $18000 in 3 years....be patient. 2 years less more money and paid cash...its worth the wait trust me...
  8. Thanks for the input. Nipper, not being impatient...just judging from the fact that i didnt have 6or7 posts right away about one or the other then it didnt really matter.... you know if i posted about if i should use an OEM or aftermarket timing belt the response id get...cheers
  9. hmm seems like it doesnt matter since i there is no passionate response either way..
  10. i would bet on the battery...i let my legacy sit for about 4 months one time and it took a new battery and about 2min of turning over for all the systems to charge and it to run
  11. You can do what i did and do an AT/MT swap....manuals are better anyway but seriously its your duty C or clutch pack..... Good luck
  12. Got at P0340 Cam position sensor code and am going to replace the sensor. I see 16 diffrent brands as well as the OE one ranging from $32 to $85. Seems to me that the magnetic sensor either works or it doesnt.... So any thoughts or discussion on wether OEM or Bosch or X brand is better when it comes to sensors? Cory
  13. just to wrap this up....i had a crack in the plastic coolant housing in the radiator...sucking up air and creating an air pocket....a new radiator fixed the problem...
  14. yeah i normally use auburn subaru through 1stsubaruparts.com...pretty much the cheapest OEM parts possible. But i dont want to be an OEM snob if i dont have to be. I will only buy OEM thermostats and internal engine parts but just trying to find others experience with t-belt components 1997reduxe: How much did your master kit from import export cost? And what all did it include?
  15. Looking at doing my timing belt, pulleys, and tensioner on my 2002 legacy...ive done some searching and see that some recommend the ebay kits, others the OEM belt with whatever pulleys/tensiors, others OEM only...can we have some discussion about the best parts and a price point? what makes the OEM belt worth the extra money etc....basically i want to buy a kit for a good deal but want good parts..... Thanks Cory
  16. Hey yall....got my first 4EAT (model year 2002) and have a question Every website i go to for a ATF filter replacement has 2 filter types a screw on and a flat strainer type....which does it use? or both? Cory
  17. filled the coolant again and replaced the rad cap....comparing the old and new it really needed a new one... Problem solved Thanks Cory
  18. uhh...i am the original poster...so i am not hijacking my own thread...this is on topic...please refer to the posts above... Cory
  19. yeah i replaced the thermostat about 5000 miles ago.....im gonna try a rad cap...i just finished flushing out the system so ive been filling it as it sucks it down...hoping its just an air pocket.... Cory
  20. other than a head gasket...what could cause this: Temp ranges from normal to just below red...it rises and falls rapidly....the more you drive usually its lower...the more you idle usually its higher...blowing cool air through vents unless engine is revved then blows hot and normal??? Maybe air in the cooling system?? bad rad cap?? Cory
  21. you dont have to change anything but the belt....there are tensioners and bearings(idlers) that can wear and its never a bad idea to change...but i wouldnt change any of the sprockets unless a tooth was broken or something...also it isnt a bad idea to change the thermostat (cheap) and maybe the water pump (spendyish) while in there....
