  4. hello all, First off thanks to all who have helped me in the past you are great. this time i just need some confirmation and help finding a part. When i get up to higher speeds, the steering column makes and odd sound. it sounds like a rattling and will go away after a few minutes..(that or i block it out) my friend and i believe it to be the speedometer cable (car has over 200,000 miles). Do you guys agree? And if so, where in the world do i get one. it seems almost impossible to find one...let me know..thanks God bless, Cory Robinson
  5. I have seen a few engines for sale for a 97 impreza...some of them have this thing about the VIN number and that jazz is this true?? "AUCTION IS FOR A 1998 SUBURU IMPREZA 2.2 ENGINE WITH 60,000 MILES AND COMES WITH A ONE YEAR PARTS WARRANTY. ENGINE RAN GREAT. FITS 1997-1998 SUBURU IMPREZA'S WITH A 2.2 ENGINE AND A MANUAL TRANSMISSION ONLY. THE 8TH DIGIT OF YOUR VEICLES VIN CODE MUST BE A "4" FOR THIS ENGINE TO WORK IN YOUR VEHICLE. FREE SHIPPING. NO RESERVE. STOCK#26175 IC#91522A TAG#66677" Let me know Thanks Cory
  6. Well i took the car to have an alignment and also tires balanced, and pressure checked. All three were off. After having all that done, i cant reproduce the shaking at all so that must be it. although there is a slight random shuddering in the steering whell now...but the body does not shake at all..thanks for insight any idea on the steering wheel? Cory
  7. Ha ...you see you havent driven the car yet. Engine runs smooth with no valve noise or anything. Body is in great conditon. Has nice racing alloys. interior is flawless. only this is it has a lot of miles. my friend and I seem to think that there was some major engine work done at some point during its life time. No that is not too much to pay for a awesome car that when the engine dies will turn into a WRX =) just jealous i think ...haha
  8. Hello all, Well i will skip the formalities and get right to it. I have a 97 impreza, with 276000 miles, AT. It has Alloy Wheels, New Toyo tires, and the suspension has been checked for play. What is happening, is that every once and awhile at speeds above 30, i get a very odd vibration. The whole car shakes, sometimes rather violently. But under deceleration when i accelerate the vibration goes away. My subaru buddy has told me to have the alignment done and tires balanced and to check for even wear on the tires, bulges, etc. Will be doing that in a couple days. It also only seems to happen on trips over 20 miles, and in the warm weather. Any tips would be great. I just bought the car about 2 weeks ago...please let me know what you think Cory
  9. I have a 97 impreza L sedan. I want to know what kind of engines will fit in this car. I have found some engines but some of them say, for vehicles with the eigth number of the VIN 4 only. Mine doesnt have that 4. any one heard about this?? also will all impreza engines fit in this car? 2.5, WRX, 2.2 turbo?? and a final question..i have an auto, if i buy an engine that is for manuals, what do i have to change to make it for an auto?? Thanks, Cory
  10. Also what impreza engines would fit in this car. any 2.2, 2.5, WRX, any?? also what is the diffrence between a engine that is setup for manual or auto. Where is a good inexpensive place to get engines. Cory
  11. Hello all you subaru guys, I have just joined the ranks, i have always watched from afar as my friend posted on this forum getting some great and funny information back about his subaru...but watch no more I AM HERE....ok enough of that. Yesterday i bought the following. A 1997 Impreza L Sedan. Sport Red. Body is in great condition just some rock chips here and there. All windows, trunk, suspension, etc is all in great working condition. Only thing is it has 278,000 miles on it. But it runs like a 100,000 mile car i love it....shame its an auto though. oh yes and i bought it for $3100 So with that said let me know what you think of that. Also i wanted to know about what you think about the engine. IF and WHEN it dies, should i replace the engine? or have it rebuilt. I have found a few engines with a few K miles on them but most of them say that the 8th number of the VIN must be a 4. Im not sure what to look for as far as i know any impreza engine works in any impreza but hey thats why im posting cuz i don kno. Any other pearls of wisdom would be great Thanks from the newest subaru junkie, Cory When i take a pic i will post for you guys
