  1. im assuming you have an Automatic?? Had the same problem...turned out to be one of these three problems. 1. Duty C solenoid gets stuck open/closed making the power transfer to the front and back even creating torque bind. 2. TCU (Transmission Control Unit) send wrong voltages off the duty C solenoid pin causing sporadic open/closing of the duty C solenoid 3. A bare wire or short in electrical wiring causing funny voltages to the duty C solenoid causing sporadic open/closing of duty solenoid. First i would recomend legacy's solutions....also maybe do an alignment make sure they are all aired up, balanced, and have a full transmission service done If you want to check the voltage coming from your TCU, locate it in your legacy then use this pin out guide and a Voltmeter to do some tests while driving Connector: B33 pin: 3 http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/files/swap/3-2_TCU_I-O_page1.jpg http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/files/swap/3-2_TCU_I-O_page2.jpg Hope this helps Cory
  2. I agree with brad, famed subaru hesitation....disconnect the battery for about an hour to reset the ECU's learning subroutines
  3. The pressure plate i used is the one that came with the transmission...im assuming a 91 legacy When putting it on it looked fine and seemed ok....any ideas? Arent all hydralic clutches pull type anyhow??
  4. If any of you have been following my posts you may have heard me mention something about the clutch pedal being very stiff. I am i need of some trouble shooting assistance. Basically the clutch works, but it is very stiff compared to any other vehicle or a subaru. Befor the cluctch starts engaing it is very easy to push...once you get to it pushing on the pressure plate, it gets hard to press. The pedal with out a cable travels fine. At first we thought perhaps the cable had a kink in it or something of the sort. So we exchanged it for a new one. The new cable did not help the problem. Adjusting the Clutch doesnt help...it just makes where the stiffness engages higher or lower. Just for a refresher the body is a 97 impreza, tranny is out of 91 legacy, got cable for 94 impreza. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Cory
  5. Just have someone you trust look over it...i got an impreza with almost 300k on it and it runs like a dream with no leaks or signs of dying...but be sure before you buy...timing belts are good to change...but are not devestating on 90 ish model subarus....like hondas or such Hope this helps
  6. I had the same problem with my auto....i fixed it by swapping to an MT but there are less drastic ways of doint this....find a TCU pinout guide and check the voltage going to the duty C solenoid...you may find it drops or spikes when you get the tourque bind...if so you are looking at two things 1. A bad Duty C solenoid 2. A bad TCU You may find some folks on here or www.NASIOC.com that have some spare TCU's or solenoids...because they are pretty expensive new... On the sucky end if you do not get voltage spikes or drops it could be an issue with your differential or tourque converter. Also get an alignment done and make sure your tire pressure is up to spec Hope this helps Cory
  7. Cool, thanks josh...we have formulated some solutions and we will implement them soon...i will let you all know in my day 3 update....also will pretty much any parts store have a code puller?? we have NAPA, carquest, shucks, a local joint called gunnars, and another local place called national...thanks agian Cory
  8. Well....we tightened the headers the check engine light went away for awhile but it came back on...so i think i may try to find an ecu code computer.....So a shout out to anyone in the portland area that could help me out with that i need to get my ECU error codes Also Josh what do you suggest with the nuetral sensor??? i would appreciate insight. Also i am having a lot of trouble with a sticky clutch pedal,,,,i think the cable has a kink in it. it gets hard to press about half way down....ideas? Also insight on the cruise control Thanks yall Cork
  9. Had a friend who had emissions problems...check engine light was on all the time and the car ran fine...if its no big deal you can just live with it... or if your like me and cant stand it, there may be a sensor malfunctioning or some sort of leak somewhere... Hope this helps Cory
  10. Have looked all over...cannot find it locally....bought it from www.soloperformance.com came out to be about $8 a bottle shipped....that was the best deal i found...cant wait to get mine Cory
  11. http://www.ravensblade-impreza.com/modifications/misc/wiring/wiring.html there is one that says 97 impreza 2.2 liter thanks josh i appreciate it Cory
  12. Well we got all of the stuff off....and everything is in...after some electrical confusion we have got it to start:confused:...i backed it out and went back and forth a few feet...everything seems to be working...mostly.... Found a pinout diagram for a 97 Impreza ECU courtesy of www.ravensblade-impreza.com so to get the car to start we grounded the AT/MT selector pin then we shorted two pins on one of the connectors in the engine compartment that used to go to the tranny connector B15 pins 10 and 11...that info courtesy of Josh www.surrealimage.com . Any pertinent wiring info would be very helpful at this stage....as im not sure its running as great as it should...as well as info on the cruise...reverse lights should be pretty easy....im getting a check engine light as well..not sure what that is about....have TCU and shiftlock disconnected...:-\ Also a last big issue is with the clutch....it is really hard to depress at the end of its action...the first few inches is easy and then you really have to press on it....it is a brand new clutch cable but could the cable be pinched perhaps?? any ideas...had to run in really close to the MC...:-\ ok im rambling and its 5am...im tired:banana:.....big thanks to Who1981 my bud who is doing most the work....A true friend Thanks again guys Cory
  13. Thanks for all the help on this one guys....we heated those babys up with an oxy-cetelyne (sp) torch then took and impact socket and air wrench to them...came off in a jiffy......have run into more problems...see my day two report Cory
  14. Depends on how much money you want to spend...other options are some modifications on the current auto transmission making it shift quicker etc....see SVX forums alot of people sell kits to soup up autos.....thought MT's are always better..just a lot more expensive
  15. I am in the middle of a swap right now...it is a very labor intensive job and you need a bunch of diffrent parts...but if you know what your doing and have the right tools it is a satisfying experience....see legacy777's page above...or go to www.legacycentral.com and check out the 5MT swap there. Now if you want a better power to weight ratio go with the impreza....2.2 liter about 2800 pounds...and i would tend to disagree that a manual wont make a big diffrence because it does...anyway good luck to you if ya do....
  16. Yeah, We have a tourch at our disposal, and were just about to try that. ALL of these little buggers are tight after 285K Miles (enough to break the 6-sided Craptsman socket we got to hold!)... I just really hope none of them shear off
  17. well my friend and i have been working for 10 hours on the tranny...Got the old auto out and the pedal assembly in....spent like 2 hours on the tourque converter...what a pain...now we are stuck on the flex plate...all of the bolts on it are holding on for dear life, we managed to crack one socket trying to get them off and we stopped for the night for fear we might round them off more than we already have....any bright ideas on how to get these babys off?? we put some WD 40 on them and tapped them with a hammer a few times before we went off to bed.....Any ideas would be appreciated.....Josh..youve done this...THAWA...anyone Cory
  18. Well thats if you can find the stuff used on ebay...then you would hope it was alive...or find a crashed out sti...if you could thats the only way itd be 10000..... i see you point though...i am doing an AT/MT swap in my car soon....and perhaps a 2.2 to 2.5 or 2.0T here soon COry
  19. thanks josh...sorry i have been busy with homework and cant reply to my own threads...=0) thanks for the info on the seal. Cory anything else
