December 14, 200421 yr Hi all, I have noticed that the turbo on my 87 GL 4wd turbo (105K) has begun to steam what smells like coolant. It appears that the steam is coming from underneath the turbo, but I haven't had a chance to take a closer look. Has anyone had a similar problem? Could it be the the coolant inlet line has developed a leak? If so, does this require removing the turbo or can this be remedied with the turbo in place? --whitey. p.s.- Thanks for this awesome message board, I've already found tons of useful advice....
December 14, 200421 yr There is a coolant hose that runs under the turbo, you'll either need to pull the turbo to get at it from the engine compartment. The other option is to drop the downpipe and go in from under the car.
December 14, 200421 yr Author If I do decide to remove the turbo is there any maintenance that I should do while I'm at it? It seems that the exhaust manifold gasket is an obvious place to start, but anything else? --whitey.
