when I drive faster than 70 the needle kinda sticks in place and moves in about 8 mph increments. is this a common problem? the odometer keeps working properly.

Very common problem, a lot of us get it to some extent. I haven’t heard of a fix yet but it appears to be a problem in the speedo head. If mine gets bad enough I will pull it apart and see if I can find anything, for now I just watch the tach.
