1200 miles on a rebuild, then it sat for five years. Pretty darn clean. A little oil here and there.

 

I've heard it run, it sounds great.

 

My question is, when I pull it to prepare for tranny swap how much of a re-seal should I plan on. Or maybe it will be apparent? Are there certain gaskets or seals that would be a given for replacement with an engine that has sat this long?

Myself, I wouldn't bother. A few leaks here and there dont do any harm.

5 years? Nah, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you want to pull the cam covers & replace those annoying high pressure oil passage o-rings, you could, but I'd think most of the seals should still be fine.

IF the tranny is out by all means do the rear main seal.. you never know when you are gonna get back there again.

 

Honestly... I would do the main seals, cam seals, valve cover gaskets, oil pump, water pump and timing belts... of course I dont like my engine to leak.. my power steering does enough of that...

I wouldn't worry about it unless something is leaking. Maybe do the rear main just because it's the biggest pain to get at and MAYBE the cam seals. Unless the engine was stored in a harsh environment, everything should be fine. I had a car that sat in the ALASKAN WOODS for seven years before I resurrected it, and nothing leaked.
