Advice on maintenance and minor tuneup

Featured Replies

I have a 2003 Outback with 52k miles. I just took it on a 1500mile trip with some offroading and snow and it has now developed some squeaks and the engine isn't quite as smooth.

So other than changing the oil is there something more I could do. Any bolts that should be torqued? Anything short of the 60k Service.

Thanks

Nik

What exactly did you subject it to??

I would suggest replacing the air filter, since it is likely contaminated with dust from off-roading. That, and the oil and oil filter should make an improvement.

A good fuel injector cleaner added to the gas tank on your next fill up may make a great improvement.

I have always wondered about all these things you can add? Some people say they are good, and others say they do more harm than good or nothing at all. I have heard that the chemicals in these cleaners can wear seals a little faster than normal. What is everybodys take on this?

The take as I see it: Injector cleaners are not all the same. I prefer Redex. Don't use them in every tank, just drop in a bottle 3-4 times a year.
