Backing Plates Replacement

Featured Replies

I am the original owner of a 1998 Legacy GT with 78K miles. I just had the rotors and brake pads replaced. While doing the brake work, my Subaru authorized tech said he noticed that the rear backing plates are in poor condition. He cleaned off as much rust as possible, but said they will have to be replaced at some point for a cost of $1,000.00.

I have had many, many expensive mechanical problems with this vehicle to the point that I want to get rid of it before I have to put any more money into it.

How long can I expect the rear backing plates to last? How will I know when they need to be replaced?

Any advice anyone may have will be most appreciated. I bought this car because of Subaru's great reputation for reliability, but I've had more problems with this car than with all of my previous cars combined.

I think a moderator already moved this thread to the New Gen forum for you.

By backing plates are you refering to the dust/splash shields behind the rotors?
