January 25, 200521 yr Hi, I have a 2000 Outback with the all-weather package, purchased used last year with 59,000 miles in excellent condition. I was wondering if the heated seats are supposed to be heated from both the bottom and the back? Mine only heat from the bottom. Also, the little LED that should light up when the heated mirrors are on is dead. Is there any way of replacing this? It is very difficult to tell if the button is depressed without that light. There have been times that I find the button depressed (on) and I know it has probably been that way for weeks. Is this going to burn out the heating element? Thanks for any help!
January 25, 200521 yr I think there are supposed to be coils in the back but I can't say for sure. The lights are replaceable in the switches.
January 25, 200521 yr Author I think there are supposed to coils in the back but I can't say for sure. The lights are replaceable in the switches. My repair shop (very trustworthy) said that the light can only be replaced as part of the whole assembly. If I could just take a cheap LED from Radio Shack and tap into the existig circuit, then run the light just outside the door, that would be fine. How big a job is it to open up that part of the door? Can anyone confirm the coils in the back of the seat and let me know how to troubleshoot this? Is it an expensive fix?
January 25, 200521 yr I can confirm that my lower back gets warm when I turn on the heated seats. 2000 OBW with the all weather. I also have a few switch lights burn out. So please post what you find out, whether it is radio shack or a steeler part.
January 25, 200521 yr My back heats as well. 00 OBW. As for the lights I know you can replace the on for the seat heater switch. There's a post somewhere with the details. The one for the mirror switch can probably be replaced as well if you don't mind tearing the whole door assembly apart. Radio Shack does have the little bulbs according to the related thread.

January 25, 200521 yr Author The light issue has been covered before. Do a search and see. Howard, i did a search and found some relatively useful info, but nothing as to how to replace this light. Did I miss something? I did a search for "heated mirror light" and that returned two threads and then just "heated mirror" which returned a few more but nothing right on point. Thanks.
