  1. Thanks, although I guess I won't be driving to RI anytime soon. I was thinking of a website. I'll call my local dealer too.
  2. By chance can you let me in on where you bought the rod? I have the same situation on my 00 OBW. Thanx in advance.
  3. This or a bad bearing was what I was thinking. Theoretically on stands all wheels should turn since resistance should be equal.
  4. I have often thought of letting her take the helm just to show her what these cars can do. She has a 2007 2WD Tahoe with traction control, and she says that's enough traction for her. A few weeks ago we got the opurtunity to go for a weekend ski trip to Sugar. Since the Tahoe is our highway vehicle now I had to swallow my pride. Admittedly it is a nice ride, but why did it have to snow 8" while we were there. I think the pain was showing in my face.
  5. taken someone like your wife or girl or anyone else for that matter on an offroad excursion where maybe you were in a little over your head and maybe the subie's too, but somehow you managed to pull if off only to find that the other person was so mad at you that they swore never to go again? I took my wife on a ride a couple of weeks ago on an old logging road to the ridgeline of a nearby mountain. Needless to say it was fairly washed out and rocky and steep in a few places. I'm in a stock 00 OBW manual BTW. I got to the first steep pitch. Maybe 12-15% grade and 200 yards long and rocky. My wife said that I need to turn around. I sat there and thought about it for a few seconds then something inside of me said "once you go you're committed". So against my wife's will I let out the clutch and without a scrap or major wheel slip I was able to carefully make it up. After another similar section my wife demanded that I turn around. Only problem was the road was on the side of the mountain and very narrow. I had to make it up just to turn around. Well finally we made it to the top and started the trip back down. I was actually very impressed I made it fairly unscathed, except on the way down. Just because I scraped the bottom a couple times on the steep decent she said that I better not do this again on my 170,000 daily driver. I realize that she is right, but somehow I can't see myself not doing something crazy like this again. It's too much fun.
  6. While trying to determine what exactly you have I found this link. http://www.miata.net/garage/vlsd.html Interesting read.
  7. Do a serach for "clutch judder" or "clutch shudder". This should give you all the answers you need. BTW I have a 00 OBW limited(manual) as well. I used to have the same thing til I replaced the clutch at 150,000. It's an all to common problem.
  8. Thanx for the replies. I have a Haynes manual for my 94 Chevy S-10 that is fair enough, and back in my VW Bug days I used Haynes as well. I downloaded a portion of the FSM from the website(as much as I could get in the allotted time). I just like to have pictures in a book that doesn't cost me $200.
  9. Ok I realize that the general consensus is that Haynes is better in general, but for those of you that have both the latest 00-06 manuals is the Haynes manual good enough or should I supplement it with the Chilton manual?
  10. My fav line. I'm going to Banner Elk this weekend so it will be my first real snow drive of the winter.
  11. Take a drill and reverse it. See if you can back it out that way. Another option is drilling out the bolt and and hoping for the best with the threads. Not sure how big that bolt is, but you could try one off those easy outs for strip screw heads. you might be able the grab the broken bolt that way.
  12. I know what you mean. Unfortunately that's just the hillbilly redneck coming out. It's redundant.
  13. Is it happening when letting off the clutch pedal? If so it sounds like another classic case of clutch judder to me.
  14. I'm on my 3rd set of BFG Traction T/A's. I like them a lot, but they seem to wear out fast for me. My first set I only got 25,000 out of and the 2nd set 35,000. In all honesty I can't say it's the tire's fault. It could be my driving conditions. I'll buy them again though. As for the Uniroyal TP's I had them initially and although they drove okay on light snow they did not brake good in light snow. My ABS would kick in alot with these tires.
  15. The other side of halogens are low voltage. There has to be a minimum voltage or the bulbs will burn out prematurely. I think it's around 10.8v.
  16. Wheel Bearing. I went through the same thing with the road noise and all. Different sets of tires, balancing. This went on for a couple of years. I refused to believe it was a bearing because there was no play in the wheel. I was dead set on a faulty rear diff. The noise was consistant at most speeds which was wierd. Anyways got it replaced and I have been noise free since.
  17. Just for my curiousity, how does one determine an end link is bad if it is not broken in two? Is there slop when pushing on the swaybar? What are the symptoms when driving?
  18. If Subaru would make a MT Tribeca with a DR trans and maybe 1 more inch of hieght I think that front end would be very acceptable.
  19. When you turn the steering wheel slightly back and forth while moving does it feel like the tires are out of balance?
