  1. This is the way my 00 OBW has always done. It hasn't caused me any problems. I just listen to the door locking noise when I push the buttons. BTW I hate the honky light flashy thingy.
  2. How does one know If a rear diff is bad? What are the symptoms? Do these 3 cars have rear LSD's?
  3. Did a quick search and found one thread, but wanted to double check for my 00 OBW. Are the studs press fit and is it an easy venture to replace?
  4. It appears that not all recalls are listed. On my 00 OBW Limited it doesn't even list the coolant conditioner. What's up with that?
  5. In general a 2002 should be very reliable as long as the previous owner didn't rag it out. Not sure what year but the head gasket problem was remedied in either 02 or 03. I have a 00 OBW and have added the additive. My car has 129,000 and no real problems yet (knock on wood). The only thing with the manual is clutch shudder. Mine and a lot of others have it, but it hasn't been a real problem for me. I just consider it a characteristic of my Subie. FYI I bought mine used with 65,000 on it. So I was crossing my fingers too at first. I have been very satisfied. Welcome to the board and good luck.
  6. Interesting. That makes me feel a little better. It's not so bad if I have both hands on the wheel but with one it's a little annoying. On my last set tire rotation didn't make a difference. I'm about to make the first tire rotation on this set since it started so we'll see what happens.
  7. 2000 OBW I have had this problem off and on for over a year now. I am on the second set of BF Goodrich Traction T/A's and both sets have displayed this symptom after 10-15k miles. It feels like a balancing issue, but the problem is not always there. Sometimes I have a slight wobble at the steering wheel and sometimes I don't. Speed is not always a factor either although it definitely is more prominant(sic?) at higher speeds. After I bought my 2nd set the problem corrected itself so I assumed it was the 1st set of tires even though I had them rebalanced a couple of times at the place I bought them. This set started right after I had my rotors turned. Could this be a possible culprit? To me it doesn't seem so, but someone here may have an idea. I haven't spoke with the (same)place I bought tires from yet, but I'm hesistant because of the 1st experience. My thought now is to take it to another place and pay to have them rebalanced to get a 2nd opinion. Also I discovered a couple a weeks ago that the right rear tire was leaking and it had 22psi in it. Not sure how long I drove like that but I check my pressure regularly. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  8. I'll be curious to hear your report. I've had the same intermittant problem as well. Mine seems to come and go about every tank of gas. I replaced my O2 sensors around 80,000 and the light came back on about 120,000. This time I let it go until I can get to it. It doesn't seem to affect performance. I've put about 7,000 on it since.
  9. I'm with you on this one. Big duh on Subie's part. Mine stopped functioning, and a new cost around $165 from the dealer.
  10. Thanx 99, I have a feeling it's the wiring too. I will definitely try your suggestions.
  11. I replaced both sensons about 25-30k ago and I'm getting the CEL again. I got the code pulled and it was a P0420 which is something to do with the rear sensor. Oddly enough the light comes and goes like clock work. Within each tank of gas. SO not sure wht it would do this.
  12. I have to agree with this post. I'm on my second set. Traction is excellent, but they are a little noisy. I guess that's what you get in this style of tire. The longevity is questionable. I replaced my first set after about 27,000 miles. I'm not sure if this is tire related or spirited driver related. Toward the end of the life I had some balancing issues that the shop couldn't work out. I've had my new set for a couple of months so we'll see how long this set last compared to the first.
  13. Conicindentally I have the same situation with my 2000 OBW. Put a new ones in at about 85,000 and now the CEL comes and goes with the code being the rear sensor (P0420). It started back at about 115,000. I have been riding like that for the last 5,000. I think I will just ride it out for a little bit before I worry about getting up under there to replace it.
  14. Hmmm... Changed my own oil this weekend for the 1st time and I thought it was 10w30. Although I couldn't locate the spec in my manual. What's the difference between 10w30 and 10w40, and is it bad I put 10w30 in there?
  15. As for the brakes there is a good chance that your rear rotors need to be turned. I have heard that you can feel the rear in the steering as well. I think it's safe to say that most of the time brake vibration is a warped rotor.
  16. Also inspect your pcv valve. I just replaced mine(00 OBW) and have consistantly gained about 30-40 miles per tank of gas since.
  17. http://techinfo.subaru.com/html/index.jsp This is your only option for the manual AFAIK. As for disconnecting the battery all it does is resets your computer and clock. Not sure if it does anything else if left for extended periods. Welcome to the board BTW.
  18. Don't know much about your car, but I replaced the pcv valve in my 00 OBW a couple a months ago and I have consistantly been getting 30-40 miles more per tank of gas. The car has 118,000 on it and the the old valve I took out had old oil in it.
  19. It's when I'm cruising. Course I get a slight vibration when braking, but I think I need to replace my rotors next time I have a brake job. Luckily I have a 5MT. To be honest I've always thought my tires were suspect. Ever since new they have been loud. I've wondered if I got one bad tire that just can't be balanced correctly. It's about time for a new set so I will know if that was the culprit.
  20. Do a search for "torque bind". Sounds like the classic symptoms.
  21. I too have an inconsistant vibration coming through the steering wheel. It seems to be more prevalent at higher speeds but it can show up as low as 40 mph. I like you have had the wheels rebalanced and the alignment done. Rotation doesn't make a difference as well. I did have a brake job done late last year. They had to smooth my rotors out as well. Since then the brake vibration has reappeared slightly. I will be waiting to see if you make any progress.
  22. Under the car passenger side. one in front of the cat and one after. Easy as a sparkplug to change. HTH,
