January 28, 200521 yr is it possible to remove the ac compressor, and the belt that goes with it and still leave the other belt for the fan? it seems like i could but what about the "bracket" that holds the compressor and the alternator? the ac doesnt work nor does the compressor so i removed all the hoses and other related stuff... on a '86 soobie GL wagon. thank baggyshorts
January 28, 200521 yr The best way to accomplish a compressor removal is to find an alternator bracket from a car with no AC.. bolt on, apply new belts, done deal, just like it was never there. If you are lucky, I may just happen to have one of those brackets in my garage.. I seem to remember tripping over it recently Also.. which is closer to your battery.. thet AC compressor or the alternator (came equipped both ways)

January 29, 200521 yr the alternator is closer to the battery, (on the drivers side of the engine).i thought that u would end up using the same bracket? thanks for all ur help. baggyshorts I removed the AC from my 87 dl and just left one belt on running the alt and the fan. I later removed the belt driven fan and used elec fans. I just took out four bolts holding the ac to the bracket.
January 29, 200521 yr I have been contemplating removing my A/C as well. My compressor is making this high pitched sound that when the engine rpms are above idle, it sounds like I have a supercharger! LOL I had a guy that works at O'Reilly Autoparts ask me that last week. I need to find a bracket as well. Time to search the junkyards. Quick! To the Batmobile!!!
