January 30, 200521 yr Those are for the "clear memory" mode. Both are different things for the same system - your service manual should detail proceedures for reading codes and clearing them too.
January 30, 200521 yr Author alright cool, thanks. by the code test looks like i have a bad EGR selenoid. now it's time to look up the price and see how bad the damage is :s

January 30, 200521 yr i just did some looking online and couldn't even find a place that sells 'em. got any ideas??this is what the part looks like but dont be surprised that it costs 100 dollars. get one from the yard, the purge comntrol solenoid and egr solenoid are the same thing, any parts car should have 2 make sure the little dookers dont break off!
January 30, 200521 yr I will have to disagree with 85Sub4WD As Miles points out on MPFI and turbo cars the connectors are black in color and located under the dash. the white (black) connectors are for retrieving the error codes stored in the ECU hence they are called "Read Memory" connectors Please try and fine time to read these links http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/article.php?a=44 http://www.troublecodes.net/Subaru/ Here you will read how to use the white(black) connectors to read codes or to clear codes
