Vibration on Shift knob upon acceleration '88 DL EA82

Featured Replies

some sort of metal on metal vibration has started on my shift nob when I am driving. I suspect it is some sort of warn bushing or something on my shift linkage. It only does it when I accelerate hard. Has anyone had the same problem. does Subaru make a kit for the linkage. Any ideas

is it like a bell almost? i bet if you look at your drive shaft(if your a 4x4) you will see a bright shiney ring of metal around it. if so, its from the rubber bushings on the shift lingages. lets the shifter fall down on top of the drive shaft.

if its not that, i have no idea, cept its a subaru =]

I had a deep vibration a while ago. And it was my driveshaft. I had to get a new one.

J,

there are over ten (10) bushings that could be suspect in the shifter mechanism.

but

there is also a cylinder shaped connector

that ultimately connects the shifter linkage to the

shifter input shaft on the transmission.

This barrel is locked to the input shaft

in much the same way as the EA81 shifter.

And is prone to the same wear pattern/problem

as the EA81 shifter suffers.

Please see the link I posted.

Then examine your shift linkage from under the car

You may get an insight to nature of the problem.
