Carb Troubes

Recommended Posts

In my previous post i told how my carb gave me trouble after my engine got hot. (refer to post,.. "My wagon died from heat exhaustion,.. why")

I adjusted my idle speed up and now it idles ok.

Is the fuel supposed to be coming out of the primary jet when it is idling, (dosen't the idle jet do this while the throttle is closed?)

Why should my idle speed have changed?

Thanks

Now here is a RWAG (Real Wild A$$ Guess) for you.

I like the fuel percolation (i.e boiling) idea.

IF your bowl vent were closed or restricted and the fuel boiled

the pressure in the fuel bowl

collapsed or somehow impregnated the fuel bowl float.

Now the float is sinking and allowing too much gas into the bowl -thus it's dumping

this lowers the idle as the excess fuel is flooding the engine (fuel out of primary)

you turn the idle up to compensate for the excess fuel.

I did say RWAG

I'd check the float level

I couldn't tell if the fuel was coming out of the primary jet before (cos i couldnt start the engine and get to the front of the car in time)

but since i adjusted the ilde speed screw, it is now

and its only idling at normal speed (i turned the screw about 2 full turns)
