I am getting codes on my '97 OBW (240k) for the EGR and knock sensor. Where can I find the knock sensor? Autozone's website says mounted on rear of cylinder block under the valve covers.

If you look straight down, just to the right (driver's side) of the throttle body, you'll see it.

 

It's the black round thing with the bolt in the middle, and the wire coming out with the white connector

I just did mine last weekend. It took about 5 minutes. Make sure you have a 10 inch socket extention to get to it. Mine was real tight, so a little WD-40 might help.

Can the sensor be cleaned / reconditioned?

 

Would you only replace it if there was a code ?
