96 Outback front speakers

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I need new front speakers for my 96 Outback and have a few questions: What size are they? 6.5? any recommendations or favorites? and finally, does the whole door panel need to come off or is there a better way to do the replacement?? thanks!

Already installed an aftermarket set of 6.5 2-way speakers in my brothers 95 Legacy. If the speakers are not to deep it should be no big problem. I had to make a custom ring out of ply wood to install it (about two cm thick). The problem is that the original speakers have different mounting holes then the aftermarket stuff. Wonder if there is some ready aftermarket ring available in the US ...

You have to take the whole door panel off. Sorry. But it is not to hard.

crutchfield says the fronts are 6-1/2", and can take up to 2-5/8" deep & 3/4" high. on my 97 you can get to the speakers by just removing the grill.

Hmmm, you only had to remove the grill?

Maybe there is a difference betwenn US and Japan built Legacys in this matter.

I always had to remove the whole door board.

there's a spot on the top rear where you can insert a screwdriver, and it will pop off. if you look at the outline, you can see a hole where you can lever it with a screwdriver.

this could possibly be different because it is an outback, and things can change in 2 years...

You may also want to consider adding on the Subaru Tweeters if you don't have them. One of the online dealers was selling them for around $15.

The wiring is already in place. All you need to do is pop off the little triangle inside of the rear view mirrors and plug the tweeters in.
