Scottbaru
In my first venture under the hood of this Subaru, I found what looks like an engine ground wire laying loose on top of the tranny, coming from the left side. It's heavy gage and black, the end has a bracket with a hole crimped to it. I'm not sure where it's supposed to go, I put it under the upper nut for the starter. The bracket looked purposeful, but there was no other obvious place to attach it. There are a couple threaded holes on top of the tranny, but they didn't look recently used, and this probably happened recently when the clutch went in. ballitch
that i believe is the ground for the starter as you said, the big red one is your power, make sure both are connected really well. ~Josh~
Scottbaru
It's tight, with plenty of copper anti-sieze, thanks.
bearbalu
On manual transmissions, I think it is supposed to go in a bracket that goes on the transmission mount bolt on driver side.
Setright
Yes, it bolts onto the transmission housing.
Tiny Clark
I doesn't make a difference where it's connected really, as long as it's on a beefy piece of metal on the drivetrain assembly. I helped a guy fix a starting problem on an old Fiat. He told me his clutch cable would glow red when he was trying to start his car, and it would turn over real slow. Got underneath, and found the big ground wire with both ends hooked to the chassis! Hillarious!!
