February 22, 200521 yr I wanted to limit the upward travel on "Summer's" front tires. Just so in an emergency, I don't put the tire into the frame. What has anyone used for bump stops in a Buggy/off-road situation? Where have you mounted them on the arm? There is little clearance between the steering/brake lines/axle for a bump stop. Just wondering how anyone else has dealt with this issue? Thoughts? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester ***Does anyone know the maximum strut travel w/o damaging the strut?***
February 24, 200521 yr Here's a thought. Try compressing one of the front struts to the point where you would want to stop the up travel. Measure the length of the piston rod from where it meets the strut top to where the piston rod exits the strut assembly. Find some urethane bar stock that about 3" diameter, cut the rod about a 1/4" longer then the measurement you took, then bore a hole that's a little bit bigger then the piston rod, in the piece of urethane. Disassemble the strut assembly, slide the pieces of urethane over the piston rod then reassemble.
February 24, 200521 yr the struts have their own rubber bumpstops. I wouldnt want to limit travel any more than it already is
