Hi folks, iam new to this. Thinking about buying a 2005 outback. Anyone have any idea about the engines? I cant decide between the 4 cyl turbo or 6cyl.

Anyone know anything about the reliablility of these engines, maintenance cost?

Any info would be great.

You won't go wrong with either engine. It comes down to if you like the 4 cylinder turbo's fast/aggressiveness or the 6 cylinder's smoothness/refinement. If I were shopping for a car, I'd love to get the 6 cylinder with a manual tranny...but I don't think they have that combo available. The 4-turbo will most likely have more aftermarket mods available. So if you want to mod your car, then go for the 4-turbo.

The 4 aspirated (non turbo) runs on regular gas, the others require high octane.

I just heard somewhere that maybe servicing and maintenance of the 6cyl. would cost way more. Maybe they where wrong.
