Have a 98 impreza OBS ......ABS light just came on.......and stays on

 

I did do some rocking in my driveway last night in heavy snow (12")

for a few minutes to get unstuck..........any thoughts if this is related

and what i do next? Thanks for all input !

Snow packed around a sensor (altho' I adimit, I don't know how the damthing works). Easiest fix, run it through a car wash and choose 'undercarrige' among the options.

 

Betchya it goes away when it warms up..

Chances are that it just snow packed around the sensor as has already been pointed out. However, when you turn the car off do you hear a buzzing sound from the engine bay?

No...........no unusual sounds at all from the engine after its turned off.

It'll work itself off with 5-10 startups and normal driving. The sensors freak when wheels turn at significant different speeds. It is common for the ABS light to come on in a 2WD car after a dynamic smog check where it spins the drive wheels only. Your rockin' and rollin' probably caused it. Good luck. r/ PK

a couple weeks ago when i got beached and was tring to rock the car free,my light for abs came on too.as soon as i got free i shut the engine off an then restarted.light went out but then.....

 

car started to shake something fearce at only 30mph.hasn't shoke in awhile.scared the ?#@$ out of me though.

Big thanks to all that replied.........took it to the car wash............

 

ABS light all gone.......i will go find some ice (in an empty parking lot)

 

and make sure the ABS still kicks in........

Just a side note. I once had a piece of cinder get caught between the rotor and the sensor which broke off the tip of the ABS sensor. Light would not go off until the sensor was replaced.
