urgent help needed, wheel bearing related

Featured Replies

ok so I'm re-doing my back brakes on my RX (88), and I get to the drivers side, and the axle stub is moving (like up, down, all around). Is this my wheel bearings being bad? do I re-pack or am I going to have to get new ones? There was also grease all over the hub/rotor so I think the seal is bad

dood. see if the wheel bearings are actually moving around.

how mucgh movement? was it making grinding noises beforehand?

it was, well kinda. it didn't sound real bad and sounded like it was coming from the front

should I replace both sides?

I always do things like that in pairs. Don't forget to get the "pin socket" to remove the ring nut on the inboard side. Later, Tim

I would just get new bearings and seals then make a fun greasy day out of packing them. Napa carries them for pretty cheap.

so umm you guys know that ring that goes around the stub (which BTW I thought was part of the axle but is if fact NOT) lets say that loosens up when you take the hub/rotor off, and lets the stub wiggle, causing one to think the wheel bearings are bad. but when one pushes the ring (a collar I'm guessing?) it tightens everything right up. I think that just happened :(
