1991 loyal 4x4 3AT transmission vent??

Featured Replies

Hi, Sunday morning... cold as a witches boob here in NW Ct... so, I guess its a ggggreat day to research in the warmth... does anyone know if the 3AT tranny on a 1991 Loyale 4x4 has a vent somewhere.. after the tranny is warm.. there is a build up of pressure .. when the stick is pulled there is a WHOOOSH... I replaced the vac modulator, and pulled the gov.. no gear wear and the spring ends go back to normal position. the car ran and shifted great for about an hour, after I put the new Vac/mod in.. prior to that , iit woul not shift at all out of drive, unless you put it into 2nd manually.. PLEASE HELP. Thank

Fgug,

Your problem was not the vacuum modulator.

I believe it was and still is your governor.

By removing it and "playing" with it

You freed the shuttle temporarily.

If you take a moment and read the repair article

you will see that the shuttle must be removed, deburred, and cleaned.

I trust you have Acrobat Reader?

Try this link

Just having no "apple coring" does not

guarantee the shuttle will move freely.

As for the vent problem

It's too cold here now to go out and look for it

I will, later today, take a peek at a 3AT I have

if no one else answers.

You could just drill a small hole in the dipstick top cap.

Sorry I couldn't help.
