clocked or not clocked

is it possible to tell if the rear suspension has been clocked without taking it apart? The reason I ask is I put the same amount of lift front and rear but the rear is 2 inches higher than the front, I know that they normally sit a little lower in the front, but 2 inches is too much.... if the rear suspension has been clocked, I should be able to put it back to normal and bring the back end down ... if it hasnt been clocked, can this same method be used for lowering a car? or is the stock position as low as it will go with this method? if this will work, how do I do it? I dont want to wind up pulling somethign thats going to ruin parts, or have something fly off and kill somebody, well, except maybe that one neighbor kid, but thats a whole nother story

This is on your EA81, correct?

 

Have you checked the torsion bar adjustment screw yet? This might have been adjusted by someone in the past.

 

I don't know about the clocking, having never had a reason to take a look to see how to do it.

yeah, ea81, came off an ea81 wagon.... the screw was cranked up , I let that down all the way, that brought it down quite a bit, but its still up about an inch higher than I want

the brat on right has 3" lift, with front cranked up about .5"

 

the braton the left has 5" lift on front, but heavy bumper/winch combo, and a 3" lift in rear with torsion bar clocked that gives it another 2 basically....

 

go drive over some railroad tracks.... :) with the torsion bar clocked, it's stiff... and rough

 

granted, the wagon won't sit as high in the back, but might give you a visual reference.....

this is a 3" lift, no clocking... but torsion barcranked up

to me, that looks clocked...

 

my pics are in my gallery, and I just link directly to them, instead of putting the attachement on....

I've only raised them up once. somebody else please chime in if I miss something...

 

do one side at a time....

 

TO LOWER:

----------------------

take off wheel

remove 3 bolts that hold trailing arm to the torsion bar plate. (you may have to raise up the ear hub with a jack to loosen the pressure....)

loosen bolt on collar of torsion bar plate.

make a mark across the end of the torsion bar and the plate to get a reference line.

tap the plate to get it to slowly slide to the outside of the torsion bar, but go slowly.

as you clear the splines,

do not pull the plate completely off, unless you are confident in your marks you made earlier :)

rotate the plate up 1 spline. like you are swinging towards the rear window. (drivers side will be counter-clockwise, pass side will be clockwise) (swing the plate down for lifting)

 

check you marks to be sure you only moved 1 spline...

re-assemble. (may have to jack up the hub again)

 

repeat for other side.

thanks, it worked, brought it down about an inch. i'll get pics tomorrow
