What happened?

I just went through the engine in my 89 GL10 turbo wagon. I replaced both heads with a better set of gen 2's I had. The gen 3's on it were bad! I put new gaskets, oil pump, water pump, seals, etc. I finally get it all back together and fire it up. Now the bad part. When I started it the engine was extremely noisy. Like it had no oil in it. The oil light was on but I figured new oil pump it will take a minute or two and it will quiet down. Nope, that did not happen. The engine let out a death squeal and that was it. I pulled off the oil filter and it was dry. Nothing in the oil pump at all. I have changed a oil pump on my Xt and I had no problems at all. So what could have happened? Except for the oil problem it started up good and wanted to run but, no oil. Just curious. I am done wasting time on this car. I have four other vehicles to worry about. Like spend some time working on my brat. But again, What do you guys think might have happened? Could I have overlooked something when I put the heads on? Would like to see what the board thinks. Thanks.

did you prime the pump? not priming the pump will cause death very quickly

check the work bench for the oil pick up tube

oil pump rotor in downside up

or still laying on the bench
