Electrical Problems

I have a 90 Loyale and its doesn't like to start, i thought it was the battery so i used another one and charged it. i also got a new positive terminal. so i just finished charging the battery and i go to start it up. everything comes on normally, the heater fan, lights and that stuff but the gauge only says about 8-10 volts and when i try and turn it over it doesn't turn over it just clicks. i can jump start it or push start it but other wise nothing. oh also my reverse light stay on now, could that have anyting to do with it.

Are you sure the other battery is ok? It sounds like it is bad. If the battery really is ok then you need to look for a bad battery ground connection or the small wire on the positive side of the battery may have a bad connection. Also check the fusible links for a bad connection along with the alternator main output lead.

Is the click coming from the starter motor ? I have a couple here that just click but no kick.

A real common problem with the starter motors is dirty solenoid contacts. These contacts can be replaced for under $10 dollars if you do the work yourself usually.

The battery is fine, i think your right, a friend told me i need a new cylinoid so i will go to the junk yard and take a whole starter off. he said that since it takes a lot of volts to start it its probably starting to wear out.
