Can the driver seat be moved? wrx sti...

Featured Replies

I am 6' 4" tall and find that the legroom in the wrx sti is just a little tight. Does anyone know if it is possible to move the seat back, like maybe by 3 inches or so?

If not, are there any aftermarket seats that would be not as "thick" as the factory seat-- thus giving a bit more space?

thanks!

Dighost,

Yikes! Three inches is quite a lot, but it might be able to be done, using your original seats and seat rails. Check the shape of the floor underneath the car and underneath the carpet to be sure. Your rails may need modifying, at the front, particularly where they bolt to the floor. My main concern would be the distance your seat belt anchor points would be from your shoulder and waist. There may be too much slack afterwards in the system to be safe, particularly in a car with the potential for getting into trouble like the STI. You might consider just trying for an inch and a half, just to be on the safe side.

If you move the seat rails that far back be sure to get a racing seat and a 5 point harness to eliminate the seat belt problem and stay safe. Greg...

Thanks for the great ideas and tips... I will definately consider how I go about it for safety sake.

Do the STi's have side airbags in the seats? If they do you may have to either disconnect them or extend the wiring? Good luck with it, you must have long legs as I'm 6'4" and have more than enough leg room in the WRX's.
