March 31, 200521 yr Is there a specific amount of torque that I need to apply to the bolts of the cap on a rear differential for an ea81? If so, could you clue me in, please?
April 2, 200521 yr Author I couldn't have stumped everyone on the board with this simple question, could I? It must be that everyone is busy with other things, like trying to figure out how to get even with Zap for his (really good) prank today. Hats off to you Eric. But I really could use the number if someone has it handy.
April 2, 200521 yr Tighten until you feel the bolts "pull" - that is a slight strain in the metal - hard to describe; once you break off one or two bolts you will know what I am talking about I would not consiter torque on the rear diff cover bolts to be critical; they just need to be tight BTW - if you find the torque listed, make sure you have the bolt threads covered with threadlocker or lighty with motor oil - it is impossible to achieve proper torque without either (unless it says that it is done dry) - just a footnote that you probably already know!
