April 12, 200520 yr I posted this response earlier but didn't get much response so I thought I would post it again. I have a 93 Loyale and have been having problems with it starting. It will start some times and other times it will not. When it doesnt start the starter makes a clicking noise and it can be jumped with a screwdriver. When I do this it starts everytime. What would be causing this. Could it be the ignition switch? Any help would be appreciated because I am getting tired of opening the hood everytime I go to start it. Thanks
April 12, 200520 yr This is most likely due to bad solenoid contacts, which can be replaced instead of getting a whole new starter. When the contacts are not making good connection all you hear is the click of the solenoid working.
April 12, 200520 yr did you see my post about checking for melted plugs under the dash? I'd check that, then I'd pull the starter out and check the contacts. A while ago my started started acting up on me also. I took it out, check the contacts (they were fine), shrugged, put it back together, and it's worked since. I also cleaned all the cables before I did that, which didn't make a difference. good luck
April 13, 200520 yr Author I need to check the plugs like you said to see if they melted. I will check it though this weekend since I am going to have the engine pulled out.
April 15, 200520 yr Hey jk-----Welcome "aboard". To get more responses, just repeat the same question in the same thread where the whole story is. Sounds like a starter solenoid problem.

Nice to check battery first....clean posts and proper grounding....make sure there is ample power..... solenoid sounds resonable after this.........
