April 20, 200520 yr When I am driving highway speeds and then brake, when I get to about 30, the rear of my 95 Legacy shakes a bit and then goes away when I hit 20. There are no shakes during accellerations and this happens whether I am going straight or turning. Any thoughts?

Do you have drum brakes on the car? Since the interior surface of the drum cannot be machined absolutely perfectly there will be slight variations in the friction of the drum against the shoe when braking. If the shoe is not seated firmly enough and the rotating imperfect drum hits it's harmonic frequency (in your case between 20-30 MPH) the shoe will vibrate. Sorry if this is a bit theoretical; I am a bit of a science junkie:cool:
April 20, 200520 yr Author Thanx for the info. My brakes are a little over a year old, but I have about 35K highway on them. I'll have it checked out - as long as it's not a tranny issue, I'm happy.

That's what happened with mine. Tried to turn them but since rear rotors are manufactured so thin, i had to buy new ones instead.
April 21, 200520 yr Author My rears ar drums - regardless, I guess I should have them checked out. Thanx, Pete
