I just bought this car, and it rolls in park. all other gears seem fine. is it a serious problem? or is this common? all input is appreciated.

This is a GUESS: The trans. may not actually be getting all the way to Park. You might check for adjustment of the linkage between the lever and the tranny. Maybe in just needs an adjustment, or mayber there's an obstruction taking up some of the travel. This is just a guess.

Not Subaru specific, but Click & Clack deal with this on a regular basis. There's a pawl that constitutes the 'park' locking function. Linkage adjustment always seems to resolve the issue. Most of the complaints are "It won't come OUT of park", but either way the answer is almost always the same.

sometimes if someone slams a car into park while it is rooling it can actually kill the parking prawl. The only way to fix this is to disassemble and replace. Try the linkage first as it is a heck of a lot easier.

I don't have a clue, but welcome to the board. I've got a 95 wagon. Great cars. Good luck with the tranny issue. You'll probably have to change in a new light bulb for you climate gauges too...:)

ah yes, 96 sedan here. Changed the lightbulbs once, and need to do it again.

'95 Wagon here, LOL.

Give up and install a map light, it's easier.
