April 30, 200520 yr I have an 87 gl turbo 2 dr coupe. Yesterday, i was left work and noticed a puddle underneath. I didnt think that it was mine, because where i work, there are a lot of junk cars that park there. Today, i drove like i normally do, but i noticed the car was running unusually hot. When i got home, i checked under the hood, and the coolant tank was empty. I told my dad, and he filled the tank. When he checked under the car, there was coolant leaking underneath. We cant figure out where it is. There is coolant on my axle, and the crossmember behind the oil pan with 2 lines has coolant all over it. There is no sign of a leak on top of the engine, and it ran fine until this happend. We recently pulled the old engine out of it because when we bought it, the girl who previously owned it had put a hole in the top of the block. We imported a JDM engine, and put it in. Anyone have any ideas on what is wrong? any help will be greatly appriciated.
April 30, 200520 yr More than likely it's the little silicon cooling hose running to the turbocharger. Them's a pain, good luck with it.
May 1, 200520 yr i agree with trogdor , my 88 turbo full time 4wd a/t did the same thing , but also check heater hoses, if your going to change the coolant hose also change the oil hose which goes into a metal line ,
May 1, 200520 yr Author Thanks alot guys. I found out the problem. The hose runs underneath the compressor side of the turbo. It had a pretty good size hole in it...Enough to spray a good 5-10 feet if it it shot into the air. Gonna fix it tomarrow.
