dextron 2 vs dextron 3

Featured Replies

Okay, so here is the situation. My car manual says to use dextron 2 ATF, fine. But I can't find dextron 2 anywhere, and the guy at napa auto parts says that dextron 3 is the new better replacement for dextron 2. Is that true? also what kind of ATF would you guys recommend, castrol, redline? Synthetic? Synthetic blend? I am really confused...help. Thanks

When I replenished my PS pump recently I used Citgo Dexron III. The back label clearly states that it is acceptable wherever Dexron IIE or Dexron II is required.

FWIW, in the ATF section of Autozone here I could not find any of those other Dexron types either although there was an ample supply of Ford and Chrysler specced fluids in addition to the Dex. (that is a GM standard, I think). I suspect this question is an academic consideration only with no practical impact, much like the discussion of the various API motor oil classes yesterday.

try this link www.bobistheoilguy.com

its also alot like this board in the sense it requires a mature audience.

good luck though
