low oil light

Featured Replies

hmm, arent i suppose to have a low oil light icon in my dash? i dont see one light up when i turn the ignition key to on...was wondering because i checked my oil yesterday and it didnt even show on the dip stick! holy &*^%!! so i added oil till it showed full on the stick and 3 qts later it was fine...just a titch low i think and very lucky too i think...so now wondering if i have a light that is burned out..

still dont have an owners manual for it :(

Do you have an oil pressure gauge? If not, than you should have an idiot light. If so, I am not sure... I will have to check next time I start mine.

it isn't really an "oil level light" . if you have an "oil" light on your dash and it comes on, you're already screwed.

"oil level light" is actually oil pressure but no oil above pickup makes no pressure so its pretty much true.

I have had a car run at half its recommended oil capacity and still read good pressure on the gauge. There is NO subsitute for simply checking the dipstick every time you get gas. Takes only seconds and is one of the best ways to monitor your car's health.

Checking the oil regularly could have prevented this:

Yep, that be a hole in the block, courtesy of a thrown rod. (not my doing, car was like that when I got it)

wow, thats a lot of metal shavings. A big hole too. Owch. Did it still run on 3?

No idea, it was like that when I got it, and the guy I got it from also got it like that. I was going to try and run it, but it has no starter installed. It should be capable of running though, as it turns easily by hand.
