Stupid Question, wheel cover removal?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I feel kind of assinine to even have to ask this question, but here goes...

I've had my 97' legacy wgn for about a month now, and it has wheel covers, the 94 i had previously had alloys...

Anyway i decided to take a care of a squeaky brake yesterday, bought the anti squeak stuff, drove to my fathers place (his driveways flat, mine is on a hill) got everything out, then found i couldn't figure out how to remove the wheel covers. My owners manual said to " insert pry end of lug wrench into notch provided, and pry outward" (or something like that) however, i couldn't find any notches, or anywhere else to pry the cover away, and decided to ask here before risking damage...

please advise.

Thanks, jared

On my 98 Legacy, I can just put my fingers through the holes and yank and it comes off. Or use a screwdriver, they are plastic and bend a bit but will come off.

Make note of the round wire on the inside of the cap and where it goes. Make sure it stays in place if it comes out of place the wheelcover will fall off.

That round wire on my '96 was all rusty. Getting the wheel covers off without breaking them was quite difficult. Once they were off, they got sanded and greased. The wheel covers come off now, but still not easily.

Park car in iffy part of town after dark. Wait a few hours and you will see how fast others can remove your hub caps, radio, battery etc..

Really, just wedge a larger screwdriver between the rim and the hubcap and pry out a lttle, move around the wheel and gradually pry a little at a time and you are done.
