Where to place jack stands

Featured Replies

Where do the jackstands go if I want to work on the underside of the car? It wouldn't be the jack point where I lift the car, right?

Here's what I do:

No, you don't want to try to balance your car on a single point in the middle of the car, if that's what you mean by the jack point where you lift the car. Too tippy, very hazardous to your health! Plus, the jack stand would get in the way of the jack

EDIT: Or do you mean the spot where you place the little OEM scissor jack? You can use that area but slightly to the fore or aft is recommended or you'll crimp the slots for the OEM jack and it won't fit correctly.

Not real sure what car your talking about but...

I jack from the front "A" arm area and try to set the stands real close.

If you put them along the rocker panels you may damage your pinch seam if you have one. There are recommend jack points along the seam, you'd have to check your owners guide for that.

If you have a frame rail just inside from the pinch seam, this would be a good spot as these are usually very thick.

What car are we talking about?
