I have a 1993 Loyale. Today while driving, I stopp at a stop sign and when I went to go I heard a clunk and when I came to the next stop sign and went to go, I went to where. The engine goes and it evs up when the gas is applied. However the wheels don't go. When I checked up the hood I found that one of the arms attached to the wheels (sorry about the techncal term:banghead: , not a car guy), spins while the other does not.

 

Someone told me that it might be the transmission oil if its low, which it actualy is.

 

My question before I junk the POS, is this guy correct and can I get this fixed cheaply?

If one axle is spinning and the other not, you may have broken an outer CV joint. It's a fairly easy job to replace.

it could also be a stripped hub.

 

Take the hubcap off, and see if the center castle nut spins. If this is the case, you'll only have to replace the hub (maybe the axle also, depends on how the splines look).

 

a junkyard would be the best bet for a new cheap one.

Its an automatic.

Both of the above answers will cause this. I doubt it seriously that there is a problem with your transmission.

 

My money lies in the stripped hub. Very easy fix if the splines on the axle are still good. Four bolts plus the axle nut is all that hold it on. You don't even have to mess with the brakes to repair this.

Stripped hub or a very loose castle nut. If the latter, the hub will be stripped out soon if it's not already. I'm not sure about your transmission, but on my old '86 when that happened I managed to drive it two miles home by dropping it into 4WD mode. Crazy thing to do since the wheel might have come off too, but I made it.
