May 31, 200520 yr I went to the jy today to look for some parts for my 86 GL. Lady at the counter asked me what kind of Subaru it was. I told her GL. She got kinda rude because I wouldn't tell her a model name. She wanted to know if it was an Impreza GL, a Loyale GL etc. Is this car just a GL or something else? My title says GL 5. Nowhere on the car does it say anything besides GL. I wish I knew for certain whether it is just a GL cause I would have told her where to stick her parts if it is indeed just GL.

LOL I used to live by you and might know the JY you went to...If it is the one I might be thinking about..they hire these girls(family members) to work the counter that dont have a clue...Sometimes you have to say GL coupe,hatch,wagon..and even then they are clueless. I worked for a JY for awhile and actually knew more about the cars than the owner did.Needless to say..he hated that fact and I didnt work there for very long.
May 31, 200520 yr The car's base model name is "GL", yes. A lot of parts catalogs seem to label the later (85-89) GLs as Loyales, since that is what the name changed to (in 1990?) though the body did not change.
May 31, 200520 yr as far as i know the 1986 gl is a loyale i have a 1989 gl coupe same parts as the 1989 loyale
June 1, 200520 yr I always thought they were refered to as the "L Series" or maybe that is just down here
