June 1, 200520 yr Is there a way to change the way the cigarette lighter works so that it stays on even with ignition off? I'd like to leave my cell phone charging in the car over night.
June 1, 200520 yr You would have to bypass the ignition check wire.. I dont have diagrams for the newer subarus.. So I'm not much help here..
June 2, 200520 yr My 2002 Forester has two outlets. The dashboard outlet is controlled by the ignition; and the other outlet is in the cargo hold, and is energised all the time. Is your Outback the same?
June 3, 200520 yr Or take the positive wire (It's the one connected to the center of the back of the lighter) and wire it (With a fuse) either to the battery, or to one of the fuses in the fuse block that's always powered. Be careful though, I left my laptop plugged in once in my dad's van overnight and it ran the battery dead :-P

If you leave a cell phone plugged in overnight, you'll likely have a dead battery in the morning!! I worked at a dealer for years and I saw this almost every week.............
