Hot Weather = sticky spedometer

Featured Replies

The last couple days have been hot here in NY, and Ive noticed that when the car has been baking in the sun the spedometer gets stuck when I drive. This morning i got in and took off and it stopped at 20, then after getting back in again and hitting the highway it stopped at 40.

Anyone ever have this happen or have a possible fix... it did it last summer too but didnt ask about it.

thanks

Might need a new speedometer cable, it sounds like that might be it. Look it over and see if it is kinked anywhere.

The grease in the cable housing is probably gumming up. You could try removing the cable from the housing and cleaning it. However without cleaning the housing, it may just be a temporary fix.
