The noise is getting worse, could it be Wheel Bearings

Featured Replies

I have a clunking noise in the front drive train somewhere that i cant find

I have 3 month old CV's which i installed myself

The noise always happens on a very steep hill (2nd gear job) on my way to work

The whole car seems to jolt while it is clunking

I lifted the front off the ground with 2 car jacks and put it in gear, makes no noise, apply the brakes slightly and the noise appears, the harder on the brakes, the louder the noise

Any suggestions please, im desperate

Could it be my wheel bearings or my tranny and diff

Cheers

Have you replaced your inner cv joints? It sounds very much like an inner cv problem.

Does it make a noise if you turn the steering sharp ?

I'm no expert, but if so I would say CV joint. Bearings are prety much a constant roar.

try this,,, put the EMbrake on,,, jack up the front,,,put it in "N" ,,,, crouch down by the front wheels, put both knees on each side of the wheel sidewalls,,to stablize it,, then put one hand at the top of the wheel and one at the bottom,, try to rock the wheel,,,, if you notice a lot of movement,, or if you hear a clicking sound at the hub ,, then yes it is likely bearings,

Hope that helps.

PS amound the many other possiblitys ;)

i went to a mechanic today and put it on a hoist

He said it sounds like the DOJ echoing through the whole front drivetrain making it hard to diagnose, but then i told him where i bought the CV's and he told me that guy puts new boots on old shafts and sells them again.

Im goin to a driveline shop and gonna get them checked, then get a written statement that they are stuffed, and gonna get my money back

check you front torsion bar bolts where it bolts onto the swing arm my'n rattled and clattered like your describeing getting worse all the time till i found what the problem was, they weren't very loose i only got about half a turn out of them before they were locked up again (then i undid them and loktighted them)

i thought it was CV's or maybe the swingarm bush
