Steering Gearbox Question

Featured Replies

So after installing new axles on my lifted rig, I noticed that my car needs new tie rod ends. and when I checked THAT I saw that my steering boot is ripped on the driver's side. so my question is, should I replace the whole gearbox from the junkyard, or just the tie rod ends or what? Is there a way to replace the boot to the ends of thew car while the gearbox is on the car, or do I need to pull the entire thing? Thanks.

i've searched different thread for this.. some of the results from the search button ends up giving me a database error.. I do have the same question how do you replace the boot without removing the gearbox?

boot replacement is really easy, just replace it. remove outer tie rod, install new boot. sounds like a no brainer to me - do the boot and tie rods at the same time.

i wouldn't get a used one for this - just repair it properly, those are all maintenance items. a used one will be old, aged, and just as likely to have dry rotted rubber boots ready to tear in the future or tie rods with wear on them too.
