June 22, 200520 yr I have read some posts that mention reliabilty issues relating to ej25 motors,and a subaru salesman told a friend of mine that there are some years of the ej25 that he wouldnt even buy.What are the problems,and are they limited to specific years?I own a 94 legacy with the early ej22 sohc and have read about using a ej25 block with ej22 heads but wouldn't want sacrafice the great reliabilty that my engine provides.
June 22, 200520 yr The 98-2000 EJ-25 engines were notorious for head gasket problems. Those were fixed in 2001.

June 23, 200520 yr The 98-2000 EJ-25 engines were notorious for head gasket problems. Those were fixed in 2001. Actually 96-99 DOHC 2.5 had some HG issues. Not as bad as you see on this list but there can be issues, seems to be ok from 2000 up with SOHC 2.5.
