Hi Guys, Thanks for the great advice last time.. I put the sensor in and she runs great with NO "check engine" light..

 

Current issue with My 88 XT. The last few days Ive had trouble putting it in gear. The clutch is all the way in but it wont go smooth.. some times at a stoplight I really have to play with in and jam it it... It does it in gears 1-4. sometimes Ill hear a slight grinding noise when it pops in..

 

Is there some kind of shift guide that could be worn out? PLS tell me I dont have to drop the tranny to fix this.. I love the car but Im not going to sink crazy money into it since I think the Kellys value is some where between $300-500.00

If it's grinding when you try and put it in gear it sounds like you just need to tighten up the slack in the clutch cable, it's probably not disengaging completely even with the pedal to the floor. (assuming XT's have a cable type clutch, I don't know myself):-\ somebody else can probably tell you better.

yeah tighten up the cable a small bit. i picked up this wagon in iowa supposely a bad clutch but the cable was loose. it wouldnt go into gear rinning, so i tightened it up. them put 2000 miles on it within a week, including the Hot Rod Power Tour

On my tranny,visbie under the spare tire, there is a green bracket attached to the transmission that holds the clutch cable.. You can tighten down the bolts on the threaded shaft attached to the cable end to a bit put more tension on the cable. If you go too far it might act like the clutch is slipping.
