87 timing trouble

Featured Replies

i have an 87 gl wagon 1800 non turbo. the tensioner on the left timing belt went out. i pulled everything apart and replaced the broken stuff. Now I have the crank set to top dead center and the right cam mark is lined up with the notch. Now when i set the mark on the left cam pulley the rotor on the distibutor is not in the #1 position. If I put the rotor in the 1 spot the hole in the pulley is down and to the left. Is this ok or did I realy fu$k my car up?

relax, these engines are non-interferance, so you can't break valves by doing the timing belts wrong :)

To save from typing it again, here's the procedure to replace the belts. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=308921&postcount=2

sounds like you used the TDC mark on the flywheel instead of the three dashes - a common mistake.

good luck

Would this be the appropriate article for an EA82T as well?
